About the event

The Justice League was approached by the MSU Broad Art Museum last year to be represented in the 2025 Farmland: Food, Justice, and Sovereignty exhibition. We wanted the topic of reparations to be a larger part of the viewer’s experience, so we brought together several activists who could cumulatively provide a view of Black history through art that supports reparations.

The creators of art and objects contributed to the Farmland exhibition through this Justice League collaboration are featured at an event Feb. 1 Art Speaks: Reparations Reframed

Farmland: Food, Justice, and Sovereignty explores crucial questions of food knowledge, production, scarcity and consumption. It provides perspectives on themes associated with equitable access to food: the urban-rural divide, issues of labor, race and immigration, and the US history of slavery. The exhibition comprises archival objects and materials from MSU’s history with artworks from the museum’s collection in dialogue with artists engaging these topics today.

It is organized by the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University and co-curated by associate curators Teresa Fankhänel and Dalina A. Perdomo Álvarez. More information: MSU Broad Art Museum - Farmland.

Museum is open Wednesday - Sunday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m
